Besides giving us the release dates, studio description, etc, they also examine how Eclipse may fare in the box office, and whether or not it will surpass New Moon -

After Twilight, the first entry in The Twilight Saga before the franchise was called “The Twilight Saga,” became a box office sensation in 2008, ultimately grossing $192.8 million, its sequel, New Moon, was dubbed one of the most-anticipated movies of 2009. It did not disappoint, drawing massive crowds out of the gate and finishing the year with nearly $290 million and counting. While the first two movies had pre-Thanksgiving launches, the third, Eclipse, has been aligned with the Independence Day holiday, in part, because the next Harry Potter reclaimed that series’ historical pre-Thanksgiving slot. Eclipse is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, or only seven months after New Moon.

Odds are that Eclipse won’t reach the heights of New Moon, given the history of closely-timed, serialized sequels. The Matrix Revolutions, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and even Back to the Future Part III all grossed significantly less than their predecessors. When a second movie is hotly-anticipated after the first movie’s success, it’s highly unlikely that the next picture will even maintain the momentum (The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter being notable exceptions), and signs from New Moon‘s run suggest that The Twilight Saga will follow the pattern. New Moon had one of the biggest openings of all time, was extremely front-loaded and probably wasn’t as well-liked as the first Twilight: Box Office Mojo readers gave it a “C+,” compared to the first movie’s “B.” Also, the vampire fad could show fatigue by the summer, given the flood of vampire-themed TV shows, movies and paraphernalia in the market.

However, it would be silly to bet against Eclipse‘s chances at being a big box office draw in its own right. The Twilight brand is so strong right now that even a massive drop-off would mean a near blockbuster run for Eclipse, there are few other offerings this summer that will be as attractive to younger females, and there’s always the possibility that it pulls a Harry Potter in terms of longevity. With no trailer available at publication time, it remains to be seen how Summit will up the ante in its marketing campaign.

LOL, whoever wrote this article apparently does not know the power and dedication of the Twilight fan community! I think that, without a doubt, Eclipse will be just as big as New Moon, probably bigger. I say this because for myself, as well as many others I know, ECLIPSE is the one we have ALL been waiting for!! It is my favorite book of the entire saga, and I know there are many other Twilight fans out there who feel the same. That being said, I hope that it does not turn out the same for me as HP/POA…that was my fave book of the series, but I really hated the movie. They left out WAY too much!!

Here are the facts: This Saga is UNIQUE. We, the fans, are DEDICATED (to say the least). Eclipse is by far one of the FAVORITE books among many fans. We'll have the ENTIRE summer to watch Eclipse over and over and over. So….let them say what they may…My hunch is that 3rd time WILL BE the charm. That Eclipse will ROCK OUR WORLD! And BoxOfficeMojo will be eating their words!

I would love to know how anyone knows that? There has NEVER been a following the way there is for The Saga. Not even for HP, we have passionate, young, old and in between fans.

The only reason IMO Eclipse wont be as good with numbers as NM is IF there isn't enough RP. We want the passion back with Edward ad Bella, Dont deliver, than that's a problem.

No leaked anything means EVERYONE will have to go see the movie meaning it will surpass NM totally! Some people may have felt that with all the NM trailers that were out they pretty much saw the entire movie. We haven't seen crap of Eclipse, so we'll all have to pile into the theaters!!

I don't think that these people take the time to learn the audience before they make the predictions or they would know almost all twihards consider Eclipse their fave book – leg hitch, jake kiss, etc. They really have no clue that this may be the biggest out of all 4.

Eclipse the favorite book of a lot of fans – there is no doubt in my mind that tons of people will see it, just like New Moon. But if Scummit doesn't get on the ball, then damn, I don't know.

i know, i hope they dont start leaking trailers like newmoon, by the time i went to see the movie, i felt like i had seen every scene…lol, but i still watched it multiple time tho..

One thing I will add…
Summit was very good about keeping the “New Moon” stuff coming to get the hype up to it's highest level. (maybe a little too good, I loved seeing the stuff we did, but we knew a little too much about New Moon).

But this time, it is quite slow at coming. Even David Slade is ready to give us something, but Summit won't allow it. If they want Eclipse to be as great (or better!) than New Moon, they need to start showing us things. Get the media's attention up.

Some people have been saying that David Slade is focusing too much on the battle and not enough on the romance. I don't think he is.
I remembered him tweeting about how emotionally exhausted the tent scene was (the TENT SCENE squeee!!!). I think that it will be awesome AND the fight scene will also be awesome!

Come on Summit! You need to give us a little “somethin', somethin'”!!

all I gotta say about this bs is Whatever….they dont know the fan base apparently. Eclipse will be epic because females of all ages will be there. Plus it will be summertime no school means more ppl at the midnight showing. they need to stop talking trash because in the end they will be proven wrong. True fans loved NM. It was the critics that gave it the grade ppl c all over the internet. These movies arn't for the nay sayers its for the FANS because we rock!!!!

What a bunch of crock! New Moon has increased the fan base, so the potential audience has grown. Yes the critics don't understand this series. Eclipse is many fans favorite book: I know it's mine and I SO can't wait for this. It will be HUGE.

WOuld we still want to see Eclipse even if it wasn't coming out until, for example, 2011 or 2012? Hale yes, we'd still go because the fans are what drives the movies!! l dont think in my opinion the E/B love story has been given the proper time to grow and be shown what really truly is, so I'm really crossing my fingers for Eclipse, l hope I dont get dissappointed or I'll be in Bella's broken heart mode for a long time!

Eclips will surpase the numbers of NM. It's my favorite book like every Twilight fan and because we will see a naked Taylor/Jacob…uhuh you heard/read this right. Rob let it slip in an interview.

Eclipse is THE most awesome book I have ever read.
Not necessarily the writing itself, though I love SM, she is not the most awesome writer ever in some aspects, but I tell you what, she gives you the most awesome characters EVER!

She makes you feel like they really do exist.

I haven't read anybody else's comments yet so I might be saying the same thing as somebody else, but I think it is silly to think that Eclipse won't do as well as New Moon on the basis that other sequels have suffered. TYPICALLY the more sequels you have, the worse it will do, but this is a book series that is sometimes compared to Harry Potter.

I guess I just figure that Eclipse has the most interesting story line of all 4 books. It has more action and will probably appeal to a larger audience. It's like New Moon appealed to a larger audience than Twilight, and then Eclipse will bring in an even wider range audience than New Moon in my opinion.

I guess we won't know until it comes out. I could be completely wrong, but we have a pretty solid fan base, and unless David Slade just does a terrible job with it, I'm pretty sure we'll all be seeing it at least 10 times in theater. And even if it is terrible, we'll see it at least 7 times because we love seeing Rob/Kristen/Taylor/all the other sexy people.

2 things…

1. summit need to hurry up and release a trailer and start promoting the hell out of it so it brings in a lot of money (i assume that's all they care about).

and

2. i unfortunately, i believe that it won't be as big as NM =(
i am hoping that the movie is at the same level or even better, but i think it is being released too soon after NM (which i personally am not complaining about). and considering NM is still in cinemas in a few countries & the fact that NM comes out on dvd very soon, most people are still experiencing NM-fever!
we pretty much waited a whole year for NM, after twilight. whereas i am only going to be waiting a few months as I just saw NM again last week at the cinemas.

i really hope that eclipse does do as well as NM (it broke so many records and brought in a lot of money) but i am just not too sure if it will.

We will be there in full effect and no doubt we will make eclipse a box office smash. But on the real- Summit does need to provide some teaser trailers or something. We have 5 months left until June and we are getting antsy.

I agree. It impossible to show the whole story, it would probably take several movies to catch the feeling from the first book. But there are a few scenes from the book I'd have loved in the movie. Like when she wakes up and he's still there… An when she's jumping down the stairs and he tells her she's indecent or something like that, haha.
