no, kristen does play throughout the whole movie. unless you mean for the song…i bet she does there too. the one that mostly sings is dakota cos she plays the lead singer.

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

i didnt know about them either until this movie but i have heard of joan.
there's lot of info of them online and on youtube. old interviews and concert footage.

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

the original is much better in my opinion. maybe cos i heard it first and fell in love with it but both are great. as with all originals though, you can't really compare. cos the original is usually the best

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

did she sing it for the movie

  • CherBear87_ChChChChCherrybomb

Yeah, I knew they both sang I  just had missed the interview where Kristen said she does play. Found it though! Now I know what everyone is talking about with the whole f*** your guitar LOL

Thanks honey, that was so nice of you.

  • Small Town Cullen Girl

I saw Joan in concert back in 1988. It was sad though because a bunch of
jerks were throwing bottles at her and she walked off the stage and would
not come back on…I don't blame her, bunch of redneck A$$holes

  • Small Town Cullen Girl

    True, nothing beats an original

  • TonalMoonLover

i like Kristen's voice better, to tell you the truth…i only like it when Dakota sings “hallo daddy, hallo mom….”

  • fathom x.x Team KStew

Mother of god…Kristen's voice sounds so fcking awesome!
Dakota surprised the crap out of me. I really didn't know what to expect from her, but she pulled it off nicely!

  • CF911 StewJett

Your comment kinda confuses me. You like Cherie, but you don't like the Runaways or Joan Jett. But you are wanting to see the movie.

???? Sorry, just confused over your comment.

  • Lola6

No, I never said I didn't like them, I said I wasn't a huge fan. Meaning yeah they are stored in my I-Tunes library and I listen to them occasionally but I'm not a die hard fan. They had their dent in the “punk” rock era for women and I respect them for that. But having heard that they are making a movie about them I was interested, but I fear that watching the movie is going to make me dislike them because of the bad interpretations or their music and themselves. I mean I guess I'm a little confused too because there are so many other artists they could make movies about that actually had a such a difference in peoples lives. Joan Jetts music is just stuff you hear in commercials. No offense to anyone just saying what I thought about it. It's still up in the air if I'm going to see it, only reason I would is because who is in it.

  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI

Yea, I'm not sure if I was supposed to listen to this… oh ch… ch… ch… chET!!

Hmm I can't hear Stewie in this?!? Am I missing her? All I heard was Dakota… which was the BOMB!! Forkin awesome!

  • belladonna101

I tend to agree on how this version is. It is childlike and Dakota doesn't have the moxy to bring out her voice. Plus people were different back in the 70's. I myself was born in 72. People were grittier more hardcore and real. I agree I think they should have just lipsynched the tracks in the movie I haven't heard the rest of the songs though so I can't give an authentic opinion but I am confused why you like Cherie Currie but you don't like The Runaways or Joan Jett? How old are you may I ask? If you are young I can understand because you didn't experience that type of music. You have your opinion and I honor it though. Joan Jett is one of the few female trailblazers and pioneers that helped woman to have a voice and to prove that we can rock out just like any man can!!!!

  • belladonna101

You obviously don't know what your are talking about. She and Pat Benatar were the only women on MTV when they first aired and it was like that for two years. Joan Jett was the first woman to start up her own recording company. I can tell you are young just by reading your comments.

  • musiclikelove

why are people saying that they don't like Dakota's singing just because she doesn't sound exactly like Cherie? (that is a rhetorical question, i know why) i mean, they are different people. and it's easy to tell that Dakota really did as much as she could to imitate Cherie's voice.

  • CC wants Wildhair

    F****ing fantastic.

They nailed this song. Absolutely nailed it.

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

really? well im not too surprised cos she went through that and worse during the runaways but damn even in 1988 still?? WTF, shes joan f***ing jett!

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

best interview ever! lol but its clear in the photos and the trailer she does play it herself.

  • Small Town Cullen Girl

How bout it. I live on a small town with close minded people

    Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch CHEEEEEERRRY BOMB!!!!!
    THis is FUdGIN EPIC!!

  • Lola6

Because of my age I don't know what I am talking about? Wow simmer down. Just because she had such “commercial” success doesn't make her god. I realize that by me not being around yet in the 70's to experience everything when it was still new and fresh but it doesn't mean I don't like punk rock. Besides weren't you born in 72' so you would have been like what 7 or 8 when The Runaways were actually a band? And yes I know Joan Jett started a record label with Kenny Laguna because everyone rejected her album, which yes is really shi*ty, and I think it's great that she did that. I agree she did say hey f- you I am a woman and I can rock out just as hard if not harder than you guys, but does that mean that I have to be a big fan of her? Please do not belittle me because of my age. And what is so wrong with liking Cherie more than I like Joan Jett?? For the second time I never said I did not like The Runaways. Oh by the way all knowing one I'm 32.

  • ZaraLovesTwilight

Don't hate me please but I like this version than the original. I know that I am too young to understand or appreciate 70's rock n' roll (they all sound boring and washed out no offence.
I'm not really a fan of the old classic rock songs, I like the nu metal, pop/punk, emo stuff. The modern versions often sound better to me. However, most people prefer the original. Dakota's voice has more of an edge than Cherie's and Kristen can obviously sing well, I knew she would be an amazing singer even before she started singing in movies,

  • CherBear87_ChChChChCherrybomb

Well, actors can learn to fake it… But she says right in the interview that she does play =P

  • TheHoneyBear

Mad props to Dakota for this.
    She's amazing.

    She carried the song well.

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

she learned guitar on her own years ago so clearly she is playing.

  • belladonna101

Sorry I ruffled your feathers chick but it just ticks me off to know end when people make comments about music that they know absolutely nothing about. I am not saying you have to like Joan Jett but I just think she deserves the respect she worked so effing hard for. Yes I was only eight but my parents weened me on music like that and I remember plenty what happened in the 70's,80's, and 90's. Some kids or teenagers think they know what music is they have know idea because good music is not made anymore except with indie bands and sometimes they are highly questionable. I am really defensive when it comes to Joan Jett, the Runaways or any music coming from the 70's or 80's because I lived it and felt it in my bones until I felt like exploding from angst which the 90's was great for. Lately I have had a short fuse on these chatrooms so I send you an olive leaf in peace and hope you well.

  • CherBear87_ChChChChCherrybomb

Yeah, I already knew she played but that doesn't always mean she'd play for the movie. Joan does some pretty heavy guitar work. But yeah found out a while ago that she played in the movie too. Thanks, though :)

  • Memori

I watched the original on youtube to compare.. and I really did not like the original CC's voice.. (but I just dont care for deep female vocals) I think Dakota did a really good job.. cant wait to see the flick!

  • Brittanie ❤'s Robstenlor

I think they did an amazing job! I'm so sick of seeing all the hate on them playing Joan and Cherie. I think they will do a great job playing them. And everyone talking about Dakota's age. Well Cherie was the same age as Dakota when she started the band, so she is the same age as her character is supposed to be. She is going to grow up, there is no stoping that. And its just acting, stop all the hating! Thats why I love this site, the hate is kept out or to a minimal. Can't wait for the runaways!
