Chris Weitz Promises ‘Eclipse’ Will Be ‘Steamy’

People magazine spoke with New Moon director Chris Weitz recently and asked him about Eclipse and Anna Kendrick’s Oscar nomination.

“I’m looking forward to the sleeping bag scene, I gotta say,” Weitz tells PEOPLE. “That’s going to be very steamy.”

In Eclipse‘s fan-favorite “tent scene,” – spoiler alert! – a freezing Bella, who is on the run from evil vamp Victoria, gets a warm-up from werewolf Jacob when he squeezes into her sleeping bag – while a jealous Edward looks on. The movie will open June 30.

Weitz also says he is eager to see Edward’s vampire “parents,” played by Elizabeth Reaser and Peter Facinelli, sink their teeth into Eclipse‘s more intense action.

“I have a special interest in seeing Peter and Elizabeth tear people’s heads off,” he says with a laugh. “Knowing them, and how kind of kooky and delightful they are, I’m going to find seeing them being ultra-violent very interesting indeed.”

Weitz, who is not helming Eclipse – director David Slade is taking over – says he is showing his Twilight pride on Oscar Sunday by voting for Anna Kendrick, who plays Bella’s pal Jessica in the series. (She is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role opposite George Clooney in Up in the Air.)

“I voted for her of course, because she’s my homie,” says Weitz, adding that New Moon – which is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray March 20 – would have been up for more awards if the Academy had a different voting body.

“If only the Academy were composed of teenage girls, I might be looking at a Best Picture nom,” he joked. “It’s a scandal that there are not more teenage girls in the Academy.”

I love Chris Weitz. He’s hilarious! Steamy tent scene! Woo hoo!

….yeah…i dont get it. lol. sure its steamy for jacob but not for bella, she's freezing her butt off. and especially not for edward lol. /shrugs/ maybe its just me.

although when he said to bella: “your lips are still a little blue. want me to warm those up for you?” i did shudder although that was a LOW blow for edward. now where's MY tent scene with him, huh? HUH?

there are some funny lines in there though. it'd be interesting to see hehe: “why don't you go fetch a spaceheater or something.”

isn't the tent scene different from J/B kissing? i see them both as separate scenes even though one leads to the other.

There are only a couple of scenes I can't watch

When he reveals himself to Bella…I don't like the face he makes (I'm picky huh?)
When they climb the trees…ugh…that was just plain silly
And when Edward rips the (meat & cheese) out of James throat…I laugh too much and feel bad

good sum up, i do enjoy that scene because edward and jacob are finally honest and communicating with one another. you get to witness two men declare their ultimate love for one person and with that they can respect each other in that aspect.

i also never read it in a steamy way. Bella is falling asleep thinking she's dreaming about the conversation that's going on between Edward and Jacob. Nothing steamy about that. Maybe for jacob since he's the one doing all the fantazing about something he's never going to get.

He can take pleasure in taunting Edward all he wants because at the end of the day Edward is the one getting all the action.

Very well put ancha. I get on these posts and hate when the E lovers bash jacob and then the J lovers bash back. And then I find myself right there getting myself all riled up. It is one of my favorite scenes, because they actually start to see that the other guy is not the “horrible monster” they thought he was. That they both truly love Bella…

You know, even Edward is willing to put up with Bella's and Jacob's feelings for each other, because he know that his bad decision to leave caused them to feel that way about each other!

And Bella is at fault too, 'cause she doesn't want to give Jake up. She wants him and Edward both! She is in denial to her own feelings, just so she can keep them both! She doesn't protest Jacob's affections toward her unless they are blatant. She enjoys those “affections” 'cause she feels them, too!

And yes, Jacob did drag the situation on, but he LOVES her and doesnt' want her to turn into what he sees as a “monster”! That, more than even his love for her, is his primary motivation. And he knows that Bella is in denial! He just wants her to admit her feelings and make a decision based on the truth. And when she finally does, he lets her go by leaving. Yet when he returns, she pulls him back in.

Even Edward cannot totally fault Jacob for his actions. He knows Jake has Bella's best interest at heart. If the situations were reversed, he would do the same thing. He would fight for what's best for Bella.

Edward is mature enough to admit when he has does something wrong and that there are consequences for those actions, even if his intentions were good.
If it weren't for Jacob, there would BE no Bella for Edward to come back to!

Yes it is hard for Edward to see Jacob holding Bella in the tent, but they are honest
with each other and actually communicate, which is great.
