David Slade Director EclipseSummit has officially confirmed that David Slade, known for his directing work on 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy, has been chosen to direct Eclipse.  Eclipse is the third movie in the Twilight Saga book series by Stephenie Meyer, and is scheduled to be released June 30, 2010.  New Moon, the 2nd book of the Twilight Saga is currently filming in Vancouver under the lead of Chris Weitz.  It is scheduled for November 20, 2009.  Summit has issued the following press release–

Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.

Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.”

Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.”

Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006’s engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007’s genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.

In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

    LYRICS
Sun down on the sorry day
    By nightlights the children pray
    I know you´re prob´ly gettin´ ready for bed
Beautiful woman get out of my head

I´m so tired of the same old crud
Sweet baby I need fresh blood

    Whoo!
    Howl

The moon shines on the autumn sky
Growin´ cold the leaves all die
I´m more alone than I´ve ever been
Help me out of the shape I´m in

After the fires before the flood
My sweet baby I need fresh blood

    Whoo!
    Howl

    Whatever trepidation you may feel
In your heart you know it´s not real
    In a moment of clarity
    Some little act of charity

You gotta pull me out of this mud
Sweet baby I need fresh blood

    Whoo!
    Howl

    Whoo!
    Howl

i actually really like this idea...i totally picture it for when the wolves walk into the clearing to meet the cullens & bella for new-born fighting training...it would be very dramatic and it would give them a good chance to do a panning close up of all the wolves

I hate the fact that they're having a new director for every movie.

Honestly, i have nothing against Catherine. If anything i kinda liked her because of some of her old work [ex. Lords of Dogtown]. i'm always going to wonder how the series would've turned out if they kept the same director for all the movies.

    but all in all...
    I can't wait! :]
    lol.
    <3 twilight saga.

hope that to ilove to see eclipse with the right perspective
its my favorite book from the saga with the conflict with bella/edward/jacob
i love to see a good engaged escene, and bella trying to seduce edward.
but also i love to see a great fight with victoria, and the dark site of edward.

Hey Nessie I'm Baaack! Tee Hee. To be honest I am partial to New Moon for reasons I don't want to bore you with. Although I love all the books even Breaking Dawn which was out there a bit. Didn't the first part remind you of Rosemary's Baby a little. Maybe it's just me. I also want to see every stinkin part of the book Eclipse in the film (hey i can dream can't i). The fight scene better be rockin. Well gotta go seems like we have started a small club here.

I decided to join in as well. Pretty soon this site is going to be jammed with comments, but we are the first. Hey don't feel lonely because I am here. I check the New Moon site twice a day and I am going to check the site to. Hey Nessie lets talk about whether you think Slade has the gumption to direct this the way it needs to be directed. He does have that dark style that Eclipse needs, but I just hope he is serious about this book and the fans like Weitz was.

i dont know...the only thing is for me i categorized each of the twilight books as follows:
twilight...the best BEST book ive ever read
new moon...the best SAD book ive ever read
eclipse...the best FUNNY book ive ever read
breaking dawn...the best WEIRD book ive ever read (and i mean this in the nicest way possible lol)

but then again, the entire victoria aspect of the book is very serious so i think he will be good for that

i just hope he views chapter 15 as comical, because i think it is the funniest thing i have ever read

my worst fear is that he makes their confrontation reallllllly serious... i want the threat to be serious, but the confrontation to be comical

oh gosh now i wont be able to sleep out in fear of him ruining the possibly my favorite chapter in the entire twilight series! (well at least my most favorite funny chapter cause not much can top eclipse chapter 17 and then dont get me started on book 1 of breaking dawn:-D)

i nvr realized it but ur rite, chris really does seem to love the series and care about making right, and not just to please us crazy fans, but to do the book and stephenie justice (like how peter said that when melissa didnt include carlisle's talk with bella so chris wrote it himself, it didnt sound like chris said "put this in or the fans will get pissed!" it seemed more like, "we need to put this in because i think it is crucial to the story and i am so passionate about this that i want to write it myself"
