Four lucky fansites were chosen out of a hat to visit Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight Saga–and they did! Here’s a summary of what they reported back:

Letters to Twilight

Two of my favorite bloggers in the world and super-friends from Twilight fandom Moon and UC from Letters to Twilight had the chance to go. I was thrilled to hear the news after finding my site wasn’t chosen. I knew their coverage would be much better than what I could do (now JayPat and LMCullen, they’d be the ones to go if we were picked and they’d nail it)! LTT girls haven’t had the chance for a full recap–but so far they say:

We interviewed Stephenie Meyer yesterday. No, scratch that- we hung out with Stephenie Meyer yesterday for four hours.
Yes. You heard that. FOUR HOURS. We have amazing photos (We’re pretty sure the photographer got some good ones of us stuffing strawberries in our faces & feeding each other grapes) and H-O-U-R-S of conversations to pour over.

Midnight Sun: Is not off the table. It won’t be her next project, but she has not cancelled it. She needs it to be the thing she is the most excited about to write it effectively or it won’t be good.

It was a 4.5 hour interview very laid back atmosphere, they discussed everything.

Bree Tanner:

Freaky Fred: In his human life was that he was very introverted nerdy human science type very intelligent who observed everyone who kept his distance from people by always avoiding eye contact. That translated into his vampire repulsion technique no one wants to watch or see him. He still retains his intelligence and inquisitiveness.

Don’t watch: the line was to both Bree and to Bella in equal measure.

Riley: Stephenie’s attitude/view of Riley had changed. People lost sympathy for Riley and she did too when writing it.

Diego made Riley assist in the actual killing of Diego.

Victoria enjoyed making Riley do it.

Riley did try to save Diego but Victoria wouldn’t show mercy.

The fact that Riley cared for Diego made Victoria want to hurt Diego more and after Riley helps in his death he totally lost every good part of himself. embraced the dark side in a sense.

Stephenie hated killing Bree.

Bree and Diego as humans were strong minded as humans that prevents them from being totally animalistic as vampires

She always knew the Volturi had visited Victoria. The fact that Victoria is now forced into a decision is why Alice can suddenly see what is happening.

Jane acts without Aro’s direct knowledge. Aro sends her and the team to North America with Aro’s blessing to act as Jane sees fit. Jane would actually have liked to kill Alice too because she knows that Alice would be Aro’s bigger prize than her if Aro ever got her in Italy permanently. She would be higher ranked than Jane and Jane actually hates Alice more than Bella. However Jane realized that Aro would kill Jane if Alice died at her hands or inaction, so Jane has no choice in the end.

Edward didn’t tell anyone that he read Bree’s thoughts because any info Edward got was not going to change anything. It wouldn’t make anything better at that point. Bella was also still human and he didn’t want to risk a human Bella by saying anything.

Downside of fame

No chance in interviews anymore to really in depth character questions because bigger media glosses over the little stuff all the fans want to know. In other words the interview that all focus on the dream, etc.

Themes

Stephenie doesn’t feel that Twilight is out there to have a message or theme and that everyone should choose as the characters do. It’s the choice that they made in their circumstances. She didn’t write it to have a specific theme or message, but if she had to pick something there is an over arching theme of choice and what the pros and cons of any given choice are. But that’s not to say the books are an allegory on choice.

I hope so-please no one kill me for this-but from the first 12 chapters I read on Steph's webiste, I liked Midnight Sun more than Twilight. Sorry, but it is the truth. I know it wasn't even completely edited but I LOVED reading everything from Edward's point of view. The first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun is my favorite of the Twilight books after Eclipse.

Me too, I totally agree. I actually enjoyed Midnight Sun better than the first few chapters of Twilight. Edward has so much internal conflict and depth of emotion that you really feel for him and love him even more.

Please, Please finish the book!

Is anyone else bothered by this? 'Choose as the characters do'? Huh? So because this character chose this path and that character chose that path; I should accept it at full face value and not want them to do the opposite because it's their decision under the circumstances? <<< That doesn't MAKE sense. Am I reading that WRONG? Because as a reader, I can pick and choose what I decide is OOC and not; based on my interpretation of the writer's work for whatever character I choose. If I've spent hours and hours reading a character and feel their actions are this and that, I'm going to BELIEVE it. Regardless of how you write, Meyer. This is not just for her, this is for EVERY writer. There are certain things people choose to accept MORE than others. It doesn't make it wrong. It's just their preference and understanding of how they read and interpreted the material. That's what makes our opinions SO unique and also cause the most passionate of arguments. Not everyone agrees, 100% with EVERY.SINGLE.ACTION. the character they love, the pairing they chose does.

WHAT? You are the one they are asking the questions of. If you are sick and tired of answering a certain question; ban it from future interviews until you feel like the POV of the other questions not being asked are out there. No one is stopping you from answering a question about a character and going in-depth. Remember, you are taking time out of your schedule to grant these answers; so make the most of it and own up to it.

*Sighs* I should REALLY stay away from her topics because all she does is seem to infuriate me with her bs answers to simple questions, IMO. This is HER book yet she acts as if someone else wrote it in certain interviews. Quit trying to appease every fanbase and not wanting to hurt feelings; just say how you feel. You are after all the writer of the Saga. Not everyone will like the answer to the question BUT at least it will be out there for people to see.

um. maybe i'm wrong, but in the first statement I think she's agreeing with you. I think she's saying that she's NOT trying to say that everyone would or should make the same choices that the characters did but that the choices, for example, that Belle made are purely HERS given the circumstances.

as to the second (about interviews) You do have a point it is her series, and to a point she could refuse to answer. but the truth is people are stopping her. for a start, she has a publicist who helps her to create the image of a “down home, girl next door, one of the people” author who isn't affected by Fame. if she started saying “No! I won't answer that question it bores me” people would stop asking her questions all together and call her a diva. and secondly, while it is (as you said) HER series it is NOT HER interview. for the most part she's being paid (either by the interviewer, Summit, or her publishing company) to answer questions. thus they have bought her answers like a product. She may have another product on the shelf (like more indepth character answers) but if the interviewer didn't request that product she can't give it. make sense?

i hope somebody told Mayer that Midnight Sun is The book that majority of the twifans are most excited to get their hands on!!

and a wishful thinking…i wish somebody had the guts to tell her in her face what's going on in with her messing up the Edward/Bella romance?? of all people, i think she should know that the E/B romance is the very thing that got most of us hooked in the series in the first place!!!

I'm staying put and waiting for all the info to come out, for the moment everything is still pretty chaotic, which is normal after 4 hours (!!!) of discussion. I love so much the fact that SM wrote a Breaking down, I also imagine sometimes other ends of twilight saga and they are not all happy ones. I am kind of bored how everyone gets their wishes fulfilled in BD, without much conflict….please don't hate me, it just seems to me such an anti-climax.

I don't know about you but what made me laugh the most about “Breaking Down” was the fact that Mike left Bella for Eric! I just can't stop laughing XD
oh, how I wish she would finish Midnight Sun- I never read it and I can't wait to finally read it! I just won't do it until it is complete and I can buy it at a book store in order to benefit SM. right now it looks like I'm never going to read it! it really is depressing

This is why I try to stay away from her topics because by the end of it, I'm confused for no damn reason. She either says one thing and negates it the next or does something like above. SMH. I'm just done with her topics. I thought I would read it because sites are finally asking her fan-related questions but even then, I still wind up confused.

She's nowhere near agreeing with me on the first point. I'll use a easy one for this this. For example, Quil and Jacob imprint on a baby and toddler. By her point, I should accept because it's the character's circumstances. I agree with imprinting to a certain extent but it's damn sure not with a toddler and with a hybrid for a werewolf when it doesn't match up with the either reason it's given as to why wolves imprint. That's how I interpret that and as I said, she's nowhere near close to agreeing.

I agree to a point that people are stopping her but at some point (with 4 #1 Best Sellers and one of the most recognizable authors in the World), you have to step up and say 'I feel like that question has been answered before and I want to answer a different set of questions'. That's not being a diva, that's standing up for what you feel needs to be out there that isn't. So by your stance on it, you would say she's a interview gold digger in the sense that she doesn't care what she says, answer some questions and get paid; even if she's 'bored' with it. I might have some hang-ups with SM about certain things but even I know that's NOT her personality. She felt it was necessary to get the newborns story out there (despite it being close to 3 years after the book was released and close to 2 years after the Saga ended) because their POV was missing YET she won't stop interviewers from asking questions that has been mauled to death. I just don't see SM being that 'girl'.

But like you, I get your point. I just disagree with it to the extent you go. *Shrugs* Guess we will agree to disagree on this one.

It upsets me this site never gets the credit it deserves from Summit. Fans post here constantly out of all of them. I'm glad other sites got a chance this time though there are a few “always in the know” and at EVERY convention, but no one posts at there sites. Odd. This one I feel always gets unnoticed and I'm sure Summit has people watching are comments LOL

I think your on to something there, and are “utmost” unlike for MR is evident. LOL but still, all in all we LOVE are Saga, we stick up for it even with the cheese. I just think we get the shaft most of the times.
