Hollywood is looking for box office fireworks over the July 4 weekend.Like the last two movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s fan favorite vampire books, “The Twilight Sage: Eclipse,” which debuted Wednesday, is set to draw hordes of young women this weekend and should generate about $180 million in the U.S. and Canada by the national holiday Monday.

In the case of “Twilight,” distributor Summit Entertainment has virtually guaranteed the third adaption of the bestselling books will rack up a huge box office tally in its first week by opening it this week. “Eclipse” grossed a record $30 million-plus in midnight shows Tuesday night. By Monday, most of the series’ fervent fans will likely see the movie at least once.

Last November’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $179 million in the U.S. and Canada by its sixth day and “Eclipse” will likely do at least that much by Monday and possibly as much as $200 million, said people who have seen prerelease surveys. The new film has an advantage over its predecessor given the holiday weekend, the fact that many students are off from school and can go to weekday matinees, and that it is the first “Twilight” movie to play on premium priced Imax screens.

As a result, total receipts for the new film will almost certainly be very front-loaded, with most of its revenue coming in the first week.

“It’s a compressed period during which we expect to do a whole bunch of business,” said Summit domestic distribution president Richard Fay.

It remains to be seen, however, whether “Eclipse” will significantly outperform the $297-million total gross of “New Moon,” or if it will simply be the same “Twilight” fans turning out once again.

Not surprising! Even haters would have to agree — Eclipse is amazing!

i would not second guess that. i totally believe it will hit that or even more. i plan on going at least two more times before it leaves my theater. and if a lot of people do the same, it is going to dominate.

just wait and see what it does total after all the other countries get it!

I saw it the first time today, gonna see tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. Though this movie to me was “okay” it just didn't move me like New Moon, but because I love the Saga (books) so much I will support it.
I will say this, Taylor/Jacob you were great, loved the CGI wolves, and Leah girl, you rocked, other than that “eh” like I said it was “okay”, I just didn't get that “excited” feeling throughout the whole movie, the way I did with NM.
Nothing against BDH, but Rachelle will always be Victoria, she “owned” it! Just my opinion folks, no hating please. Here's hoping “Breaking Dawn” will knock all three out of the ballpark! So, Mr. Bill Condon, I'm counting on you to come thru, and make BD the most beautiful, romantic, exciting, spellbinding ever!

I know right! Whoever is raking in all the TL merchandise and movie money has gotten a portion of my paycheck since after TL. I bought the books after that and then that was that. I was sold. Hope everones getting a piece of it since I love them all (even Summit – since they give us the movies)

i love u for evyerhting you just said bc i agree. loved new moon movie the most out of the three even though it was my least favorite book, just goes to show how great of a job CW did. i liked eclipse not crazy bout it but wll be watchng it for the 3rd n 4th time this weekend bc i cant get enough of the proposal scene!!!!! been listening to sia-my love on repeat!

I have to see it three times at least before I absorb it properly. First time I reel a bit from the shock of all the storyline deviations. Second time I know what bits I'm going to be disappointed by so I can learn to enjoy the film. Third time I'm completely carried away by the movie version of the story.

At least that's how it was with New Moon . . . going to see Eclipse for the second time tomorrow and I'm going to shove my fingers in my ears for Bella's last RIDICULOUS speel about how she wants to be a super special different weirdo by becoming a vampire and that her love of Edwward is completely secondary (grrrrr!), and then I'll be good!

OME i'm so happy i need to share it with someone!!! were i live the movie premier is until july 08 yesterday i got my tickets to the midnight premier but today my mom give me the greatest news her best friend's son is in some media-marketing event and they'll having the premier on tuesday 6 so i'm going i'm so happy!!! even when it is only 2 days before (of course i actually read all the spoilers already) couldn't help it!!!!

I respect all of the opinions on this board, but i have to completely disagree. David Slade did an amazing job and needs to be credited for bringing the book to life. I loved NM and CW, but this movie out did itself in story, CGI and even pace. It has something for everybody not just die hard fans. We finally got hear from the other actors! Even though the books are from Bella's perspective, I love that we got to see what happens when she isnt around and David Slade did a wonderful job at displaying that.

I have to admit I didn't have much confidence in David Slade as the new director after seeing '30 days of night'. But he turned out to be the best director the Saga has had!!

Some things can only be shared with your online beddies who share your addiction! HAHA I TOTALLY would have seen it times the fist day, but I work for a real estate attorney and the 30th was the busiest day of the year for us. So I went to the midnight show on the 29th and weathered the late night/early morning, but have to wait until tonight to see it again. Then I am taking my 9 year old next week and then my cousin and I are going again at some point. But I kind of want to space it out because I think the strong need to see it won't dye down anytime soon and I am not banking on hubby being able to find me a screener within the next weeks like he did NM.

I'm so glad someone else feels the way I do! My hubby (while he totally supports my addiction and is going with me tonight to see it) does not understand why I feel the need to see the moives over and over. The first time I saw NM and now Eclipse, I liked them, but did not ENJOY them becuase for (1) I was hyped up, excited, tired (from sitting for 3 hours before and it being midnight), and always anticipating the next scene, so I did not let myself enjoy the scene showing and (2) I was very critical becuase I am an avid lover of the books, so I tended to pick the movie apart. The 2nd time I saw NM (and I hope to feel the same way about Eclipse), I was more relaxed, knew which parts of the book where there and which weren't and just truly enjoyed it. And by the 3rd time, I had fully let go of the fact that things were different from the book or left out from the book and ABSOLUTLY LOVED IT! I plan to see Eclipse 4 times over the next few weeks, so I hope for things to be the same. So far, even after one shot, I think the Eclipse is the best of the 3.

And I agree on the 2nd part too. While there were things that I wish were in there, I can deal with it. That ending meadow scene was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Book Bella would never have said that. And I read the leaked script yesterday to see what all was cut out and kept hoping that for some reason, it was originally right and some idiot changed it, but it was identical to what was said at the end of the movie. I was greatly disappointed in that!

Lol im the same way. I aw it at midnight on Tuesday, and have plans to see it three more times. And then of course I will most def be sneaking in to see it alone at some point…I have the whole week off of work next week…so yea, its going to happen.

I completely agree with everything u said. It's my favorite book; and i still haven't absorb the movie yet. I went in with an open mind; so i wasn't hugely disappointed, but more like a little confuse by some things. With that being said., I have to watch it several times to really appreciate it or enjoy it. There were a lot of hits and misses; but it was still good though. I just have this itch/ feeling about it like it's misssing something and I just have to re-watch it.
