‘Twilight’ and Robert Pattinson cause ‘spike’ in sales of Volvo C30

Eclipse 075 280x199 Twilight and Robert Pattinson cause spike in sales of Volvo C30 fans Remember the ‘stupid shiny Volvo owner’? Well the makers of that particular Volvo aren’t so stupid, they are cashing in, thanks to ‘Twilight’.

According to Chicago Business, several Volvo dealership owners have spoken out on the popularity of the cars utilized in the films.

One manager said that “After the movie launched, we saw this spike in C30 sales. We didn’t know what had happened until we put two and two together.” In that particular dealership’s case, “The XC60,” used in New Moon, “at $32,995, has not seen the same spike in sales as the C30, at $24,600.”

Others report a surge in sales for both the C30 and the XC60.

“We have seen an increase in interest in both vehicles by the youngest of drivers, teens and twentysomethings, and beyond.”

Of course, if there is a bit of difference between the popularity of the vehicles, it might stem from the fact that the model used in New Moon was met, initially, with distaste from Twilightfans – both for the switch between films and for the fact that the car in New Moon was not “silver.”

In the books – and most fans do want the films to resemble the books as much as possible – the car that Edward Cullen drove was a shiny, silver Volvo, and Stephenie Meyer painted a picture herself of what the car looked like in her mind when writing the series by putting a picture of it on her website and stating “Edward’s Volvo [is] the silver S60R (and I’ve been assured that the “R” part is essential).” While neither of the cars used in the films were exactly what Meyer described, the one for Twilight was, at least, silver.

Ok confession, so I’ve been to my local Volvo dealership twice to test drive 2 different silver Volvo’s, and when I went inside it was like Twilight mania in there. Everywhere you turned there were the New Moon and Edward Cullen cut outs and posters, it was like a world gone Twilight, which is not a bad thing! This company should be thanking their lucky stars for The Twilight Saga. So, who’s in the market for a Volvo this year?

They are so stupid. Anyone who is a Twilight fan knows that Edward does not drive Black SUV. Why are they suprised that they did not see a spike in sales after New Moon. That car they stuck Edward in was a joke.

It was a strange decision. The book clearly states shiny silver Volvo. She describes the car. We had already seen it in Twilight. I thought at the very least Edward should have said, “Hey, look. I got a new car!”

Chris Weitz said later that it was his decision and apparently he made the wrong one because people didn't like it. He thought Edward would have a darker car and that an SUV would be more suitable than a hatchback.

He didn't realize that so many people were so attacked to that car.

i would imagine that the Volvo company also encouraged him to go with a newer, more expensive model for their promotional and sales purposes, too.

It's according to the actors, the movie they're making…lots of things.

Some actors, for example, don't mind being naked in front of people and some do. i would imagine some actors also don't like being in a love scene with someone who is naked.

I think it is put into their contract prior to making the movie, too. Some actors use “body doubles” for nude scenes.

He did a nude scene in Little Ashes…not all of him was shown, however. I think he would be cool with it if it fit in with the scene and the story. He seems comfortable enough with himself.

Guess we'll see what's in store in Bel-Ami…I'm thinking he will be mostly covered though, maybe glimpses of skin covered cleverly by sheets and things while making love…

I don't know that he hates his body. He seems comfortable with it. it's a good body, he works hard on it. I think he's just modest, doesn't want to appear proud.

I haven't heard an exact date on Bel-Ami–just that it's coming out in 2011. Can't wait to see it, though. it will be magnificent, I believe. It's from an absolutely fascinating book. Have you read it? I recommend it highly.

Ive had mine since last nomember, its silver but rather different from the model they used in twilight (mines got a bigger spoiler, lowered etc)
I love the car, but I didn't have mine because Edward had one (as much as I am a Huge Twilight fan – I couldn't justify spending £22,000 + just because Edward has one)
In the dealership where I ordered mine from, they had 2 women go in with stills from the movie saying they wanted the exact car, a bit much I think. When I picked mine up, they had XC60 pics with Edward every where in the dealership…they even gave me 10 huuuuge posters to give to girls at work!

I even bought a little silver matchbox Volvo,like Edward drove to put with my Twilight collection . LOL Oh well, we'll see what they do in Eclipse. It may sound silly to some who aren't into this saga, but that car is mentioned too many times in the books,to be replaced. LOL

Okay, I just went through youtube Eclipse filming videos–found the car! It appears to be the very dark gray SUV that Edward also drove in New Moon. If you want to see it–it's Eclipse filming video 12.

Guess it's a big enough car for Edward/Rob…it's decent. I'm not complaining…but, it isn't the silver Volvo…okay, I'm over it…not the worse thing that can happen…I mean–It is Edward behind the wheel, right?
