‘Twilight’ Takes Over the Oscars?

Eclipse 425.stewart.kendrick.lautner.lc.030710 280x207 Twilight Takes Over the Oscars? taylor lautner kristen stewart anna kendrick E!Online has a new article discussing how Twilight, in some ways, took over the Oscars last night -

What’s an awards show these days without some teen vampires and werewolves? Nothing! So that’s why at this year’s Academy Awards, they snuck some in. The Twilight Saga: New Moon had, let’s see, zero Oscar nominations, but somehow here’s Anna Kendrick, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner attending the ritziest party of the year.

So Kendrick didn’t technically sneak in. She totally earned it, being nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Up In The Air and also presenting an award (lucky!) with Zac Efron.

But Taylor and Kristen dodged bodyguards and hid behind props to get into this thing. OK, not exactly—but did the Academy cook up a tribute to horror films just to have an excuse to put these two on stage together?

Also, Robert Pattinson couldn’t make it, but still got mentioned in Neil Patrick Harris opening ballad.

So now that the stars have gained access to the planet’s most exclusive party, all that’s left is to make a Twilight movie worthy of Oscar night…

Huh. Not sure what I think of that. The Academy cooking up the Horror  films tribute just so they could have an excuse to have Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner present? If that was the case — then why didn’t they just have them as presenters?

Why is it that people need to make a conspiracy out of all things Twilight! Sheesh!

[Thanks, Jesse!]

See when I first saw Miley, I thought she was cute and fun. until her skanks photos appeared and the whole opera fell apart, this chick is a walking merchandise and I'm not buying what she is selling. The Teen Choice Awards ring any bells?

Zac can actually act, have you seen 17 Again? and I have not seen Orson Wells and Me, but I heard great things about it, a well you always find a diamond in the rough.

That is why you have to applaud not just Kristen, Taylor and Anna. Stand up to the parents, they raised them good, they didn't make walking merchandise. They are what you get.

  • lady danag

    i'm over with that website.

  • dying.to.b.a.cullen

no way, i didnt actually know that but that exactly how i see him as older, i love Mr. Darcy….oh i think I would like to live in that time for a little while
love the new btw, i think she would be a great choice

  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)

oh boy… LOL! A donkey braying. Too funny.

She just rubs me the wrong way. Yes, her voice irks me, and I don't think she's particularly talented. She's another Britney Spears wannabe.. just another studio voice, no real talent. Blech.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

    Touchy today, are we, 30?

    Hahahahaha!

Some of us see 30 as the prime of life!

(Just not when we're 18 like Miley!) LOL

  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)

Another reason why it was stupid that NM was in the horror category… how was Jake showing her to ride a bike even remotely close to being scary? At least in the Beetlejuice clip he was doing something “scary.” If they absolutely HAD to have NM in there, couldn't they have put the clip of Bella on the ground with Jake in wolf form, snarling at Paul? That could have some creep factor and would fit at least.

  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)

I missed him! When was that? :(

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Good point, WVL. Seems like a charm school course could benefit Miley greatly…that and a dose of humility.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

I don't believe any excuse is needed for any of the Twilight cast to be at an award show, period. They add to any show they appear at; they add interest, they add viewership, they add appeal–they look good!

They belong at award shows. They are movie stars. They have a huge fan base People want to see them–and not just teens but people of all ages are interested in them and their movies.

If award shows like the Oscars are to survive and thrive they need to promote and offer something to the younger stars such as the Twilight stars, I think…make them a substantial part of their shows.

I totally agree about the montage, too. I'm not sure what they were thinking with the movies they chose for their horror category: Jaws? Edward Scissorhands? New Moon? Really?

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Yes, that is sad. Not only was it not a horror movie but it did deserve some consideration in several categories such as visual effects, score and original song.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

You've got it. fantasy/adventure/romance. That's exactly the category. They recognized that in the Lord of the Rings movies–why not the Twilight Saga?

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Exactly, 30! They are up and coming A list actors. They deserve their place at the Academy Awards show or any other awards show they chose to accept their invitation to.

They work hard at their chosen profession, just as much or more than their fellow actors do. They are very popular. They are very attractive. They add to any show. They should be there.

Audiences flock to their movies. They have a loyal fan base. Their fans deserve to be able to see them there, too.

The haters need to move on. Life's too short to live to stir up trouble, I think.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

You're right…as if they'd need to sneak on. They plead with the Twilight stars to grace their stage, to bring their fans to increase their viewship numbers!

    LOL

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

    Umm…….not funny, ILW…..

Just following the book……I'd say Fantasy/Romance/Adventure, myself.

    LOL

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

    Ooh, coffee!

    Race you to Starbucks!

    We can debate there!

    LOL

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

It seems to me that practically every awards show in the past year has somehow mentioned Rob–he's a big star and not just in the Twilight universe, everywhere. He's big news.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

I liked several of the movies in the montage–Jaws, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, New Moon–but I hardly thought it was a true horror movie montage!

    LOL

    Twilight Takes Over the Oscars?

    WTH?

More like Twilight was snubbed by the Oscars!

No nominations, a few of the stars were invited (to increase the number of viewers) but only allow moments of screen time. Taylor and Kristen did not present an award–only a strangely put together montage, and they were not interviewed on the red carpet as far as I saw.

It was advertised that Kristen, Taylor and Anna were going to be a big part of their festivities. I watched the pre-red carpet show, the red carpet interviews, the Academy Awards show itself and part of the after-parties–I saw very, very little of any Twilight-related stars. They are “A” listers. They were not treated as such as far as I could see.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Yes, I agree. Kathryn Bigelow would be a great choice however she is most likely booked for the forseeable future, I would think. She is very much in demand right now.

Would be a great choice, though. She would do an amazing job, I'm sure.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

True, the scripts of the Twilight movies have not been what we would have liked for them to be, so far, but I don't think they have been bad enough to be called “the worse” in movies.

I do agree that the Twilight saga certainly does deserve respect from the Hollywood establishment. The Twilight franchise and it's stars are legitimate and need to be treated with the respect they deserve.

  • ILoveWolves-Stalking 04/09

Aww, come on! It is funny! LOL

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Okay, I'll admit it, it was, just a little bit! ;-)

    LOL

  • ILoveWolves-Stalking 04/09

Haha! I still need that coffee! LOL

  • Swjos (Team Maternal Instinct)

The film Bella does. I don't like the book Bella at all, except for her decisions concerning Reneesme in BD. But Kristen shows a different Bella. A more selfassured one. That's why I like the films. All because of Kristen. :)

  • Swjos (Team Maternal Instinct)

I agree that Edward develops. :) And I also agree that Jake isn't the best of a boyfiriend either. :)

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Well…what's taking you so freakin' long?

    I'm still here at Starbucks…waiting!

    LOL

  • ILoveWolves-Stalking 04/09

MY DARN JOB. I hate it. *wails*

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

    I'm sorry, hon. :-(

    Maybe after work?

  • ILoveWolves-Stalking 04/09

I didn't save it, darn it! I am frantically searching for it on my history
    when I get home! LOL

  • Robertsgirl

They are happy to use the Twilight cast to get the fans to watch their shows but then suggest they have no right to be there.

    Nice!!

  • Robertsgirl

Neil Patrick Harris sang something about “whether you're Team Jacob or Team Ed”.

There were a few films in the horror clip that I wouldn't really class as horror films!!

  • Robertsgirl

    I know, that's what I thought LOL

  • Robertsgirl

They weren't the only presenters there with zero nominations so why the h3ll are they picking on them!!

Oh…I see….just by mentioning them they get people to read their dumb@ss site.

Right so they cooked this story up just have an excuse to write about them.

    Hypocritical much?

  • megclearwater

Can someone tell me where I can watch the oscars in the UK? Online or one the tv?!! Please help!

  • dying.to.b.a.cullen

yeah i def think the movie Bella comes across as less whiney and more sure
of herselr, Kristen was so much better in NM…really improved

  • dying.to.b.a.cullen

well there goes my evening entertainment…lol,no worries hun it will a nice
    suprise if you find it!

  • Robert made my day

It's because everyone knows we love them. If they are a big part of the people… they're forkin' goin'!

Like Robert Pattinson last year. Totally random… but he's loved by many… so he's automatically in:)

A WHOLE BUNCH of other actors and actresses weren't nomintated for shite, or had a movie on the screen recently, but hale, they still went didn't they?

Why do they nag on the twi cast? FORK YOU.

Son of a Bella……………….. I've overreacted again. Too overprotective of this cast.

  • http://www.fanfiction.com/~youroasis MCNutters [Team Nessie!]

too true, but i really dont think a nomination was necessary. they still have a long way to go.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

I didn't mean to suggest that it was the show organizers or promoters that criticized the Twilight cast but that it was the entertainment blogs, the gossip rags that gave that impression.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

A nomination in the visual effects category for New Moon was in order, I thought. The visual effects were very good in that–the wolves and the sparkle effects were top notch!

Also there were several original songs that should have been considered–the most prominent ones was “Possibility” and “Hearing Damage”, I think. The score was also very well done and Oscar-worthy, in my opinion.

  • Robertsgirl

Oh I know you weren't blaming the organizers ;)

But it seems like E! like to talk about Twilight and the cast a lot but then accuse the academy of making up an excuse to have them there.

Sorry I didn't explain it very well. lol

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

Yeah, E! does like to stir people up a bit, don't they?

  • Robertsgirl

Don't they just, I daren't go anywhere near their site…it is not good for my blood pressure LOL

  • cullen1212

anna and tay and kris AND MICHEAL SHEEN !!!! omg we didnt take over anything … so we were there… geez ! yea know ?

  • Jennifer *Team Nov. 20th!!!*

It was the biggest reason I watched! I never really agree with the movies that are chosen as “Best Picture” so it tends to be a bit of a snooze-fest! I did like many of the choices this year but other than that, not so much….

  • belladonna101

Honey these are the Academy Awards not the Twilight Awards!! I love Twilight too but you have to keep things in perspective darlin. This is an awards show to honor the best character actors out there today. I love Kristen and wish daily I could have a body like hers and was able to wear anything and everything but she is far from an Oscar right now. I believe that she will at least get nominated if not win by the time she reaches 30 but she has a little growing and evolving to do right now. All I heard was that Taylor and Kristen were presenting and that is just what they did. Now when it comes to presenting the major awards those usually go to the last years winners. I love the Oscars and I wait with baited breath each year for them to come. True since they have been putting the Twilight stars on the Award show it has boosted ratings and when I say this don't take it the wrong way but its kinda sad that nobody enjoys watching shows like this anymore unless they have someone from Twilight on there. Now I have a kinship with the Oscars because my belated mother and I would watch them every year and critique the dresses and root for whoever will win best actress or actor. I watch them now with my great aunt, but I know I am an oddball because most women in their 30's don't watch the show or respect the movies that are nominated in it. Breesmom you and I have had convos in the past and I want you to know I am trying not to be derrogatory at the least with your comment thats why I explained my side.

  • Breesmom~team Bel-Ami Rob

I do understand this is not the Twilight awards or the MTV awards. I understand that Twilight nor any of its stars were nominated in any category of the show.

The Academy Awards show has always been a big deal in my family, both the family I grew up in and my own family. I've watched the show faithfully for years.

I think that for the Academy Awards show to be viable they need to expand their bases…really include the younger generation…not just as a token, though…and what they did the past couple of years was just as a token. They advertised younger stars and movies but didn't really include them much…I do understand that they are rewarding those with a lifetime of work and that's great…up to a point. If they really want the younger viewers I think they will need to rethink some things.
